Bones - Human Body Project

The children and I are thoroughly enjoying our current project on the Human Body.
We have spent the last few days finding out about bones.  We started by reading the Acorn book Our Bones, and making bone shaped fact books. They discovered that our bones join together to make a skeleton. Today we made some playdough, following this simple recipe, and created a skeleton.

For a bit more fun, we made some pink playdough, and added some muscles to our skeleton!

We learned about joints and how the skeleton holds our body up.  The children loved the way in which this book describes how our body without bones would be like a wobbly pile of goo!

Using cotton buds the older children made skeleton art work.

They also each made a moving skeleton with split pin joints.

Milk helps build healthy bones, so together we made banana milkshake. While they drank it, I read to them from Psalm 139, where it describes God knitting us together in our mother's womb.  We then prayed together and thanked God for each other and the bodies that he created for us.

  2. I would like permission to use your photo of the play dough skeleton in a research/learning packet I am putting together for home school families on Bones. It would be used as an example of a family activity and to add interest.

    Warmly,
