Life Lately

Nathanael, Tabitha and Abigail attended a print making workshop at Gateway where they explored different techniques.

On Family Day we visited Dunham Massey, which has been transformed into the Stamford Military Hospital, to mark the centenary of World War I.

 



Dunham was used as a First World War auxiliary hospital from April 1917 to January 1919.

 



Actors took on the roles of nurses and patients to set the scene.

 



To follow on from our Scotland, Wales and Ireland mini unit studies, the children completed a project on England.

 

They made flags of St George and located English landmarks on a map.

 



Nathanael produced a travel brochure to advertise some facts about our country.



Tabitha has been finishing her farm project and writing some simple sentences.

 



 

 

I have started a Little Keepers Club with Tabitha and Abigail, where they will work towards awards and badges. I got them some aprons made with their names on, with which they are delighted.

The children had a lot of fun at the Postal Bible School Prize giving.

 



 

We were blessed to have another short break in North Wales.

The oldest Lighthouse in Wales.

It was exciting to take a trip on the funicular railway to the top of the Great Orme in Llandudno.

 



 We walked the town walls in Conwy

 



 

and played at the harbour.

 



We explored Rhuddlan Castle,

 



visited a waterfall,

paddled in a stream

 



and took a ride on a buggy around our caravan site.

 



Back to our normal home school schedule and looking forward to more sunshine.

North Wales

For the last few days we have been on holiday in North Wales. We managed to get a last minute cheap deal on a caravan, and despite the rather bleak weather forecast, the sun shone and we had a lovely time together as a family.

 



Wales Week!

This week our theme has been the country of Wales!

 

 

We located Wales on a map of the United Kingdom and coloured in its flag.

 

 

We then watched a video on the heritage of Wales.

 

 

 

The national flower of Wales is the daffodil, which also happens to be one of my favourites, so we decided to decorate our kitchen windows by painting them on

 

 

and the children made some daffodil sun catchers.

 

 

We also sewed some daffodils with ribbon hoops to hang in our kitchen.

 

 

We found out about Mary Jones and her desire to have a Bible of her own.

 

 

 

In history, the subject this week was the Welsh Revival.

 

 

 

 Our family has enjoyed singing some Welsh hymns; Guide me O Thou Great Jehovah, Calon Lân and Here is Love Vast as the Ocean. To reflect the theme of the Welsh revival and God's love, our memory verse for the week has been John 3:16. 

 

 

The children found out about coal mining in Wales and in particular children working in the mines.

 

 

We designed our own love spoons

 

 

and Nathanael wrote an acrostic poem about Wales.

 

 

Wonderful, Welshy, Wales.

A Welsh dragon... so beware!

Lunch is leek and potato soup (welsh cakes for pud)

We have enjoyed making and eating Welsh cakes,

 

 

Leek and Potato soup and Bara Brith.
