Abigail's ABC Lapbook (3 years old)

Abigail is very keen to join in with her older brother and sister and do school work,
so I made an ABC lapbook for her to complete.

I hope that you can see from this picture how Abigail practised writing the letters on the big capital letter which I had cut out and stuck onto the front of each flap. Under each flap, Abigail used stickers or drew pictures that started with that sound.

The Heart - Human Body Project

 

As a continuation of our project on the Human Body, we have focused on the heart.

 

The body contains 5.2 litres of blood, so as a practical Maths activity

 the children measured out that amount of water.

 

 

We borrowed a water pump from the Gateway library, constructed it and discussed how the function of the heart is to pump blood around the body. We first tried to take our pulses when resting and then after exercise.  This was harder than I imagined and I only managed to find Nathanael's pulse. There was no way that they could find each others! Since that experiment was a bit of  flop, we spent the time talking about how the heart beats faster when active, to supply the body with oxygenated blood and we clapped the rhythm of resting and active heartbeats.

 

Nathanael wrote up what he had learned about the heart and Tabitha did some handwriting practice.

 

 

Looking at the artist Jim Dine, we created some heart paintings in his style.

 

 

With my younger children, we used this opportunity to revise the heart shape and the colours red and pink. I also made a simple Maths heart game for them to play in the garden, where they matched numbers to spots.

 

 

To finish off, we baked heart shaped biscuits.

 

 

 

Spring Project

Over the last two weeks, we have been working on a Spring Project. The children have visited a farm to see newborn animals, read books from the library and watched YouTube videos on the lifecyles of different animals and spotted signs of spring at our local parks.

Our Week

I can't believe how fast the weeks are flying by. We are plodding along nicely with our Home Education, enjoying our schedule and being together as a family.

 

So what have we done this week?

Our Week

Our week started with some early morning piano lessons, 

 

and the building of a Duplo Viking Longship. 

 

 

We have played lots of games and puzzles.

 

A new favourite is 'Story Cubes'.

You roll the dice and have to tell a story that incorporates the pictures on the dice. 

 

Tabitha's favourite 'Tummy Ache!'

 

 

Phonics and reading activities have included...

 

 

 

 

 

 

We have had fun weighing with scales.

 This week in History, the children have studied Queen Anne's reign, the Act of Union and the Duke of Marlborough's victory over the French at Blenheim.

 

 

 

 We are learning German on the laptop with 'Rosetta Stone'

 and we made some 'Snap Circuits.' Very exciting!

Postal Bible school came through the post, they were very excited!  They love to collect the post each day and are delighted when there are letters and parcels (from Amazon) for them.

 

Abigail and I had to take a trip into Manchester to the children's hospital.  We went in on the bus... 

 

...and shared a chocolate milkshake together.

Our Week

Our special tea was Haggis and neeps, followed by some Scottish highland dancing!

 

 

Last but not least, baby Elisabeth has started to smile.
