Family Day - Little Moreton Hall

Today we visited Little Moreton Hall, an iconic Tudor Manor House.

Crossing the moat to enter the house.
History lessons from Daddy!

Learning how to play Nine Men's Morris.

Elisabeth trying out the servant's bed.

Nathanael helped the housekeeper make the beds by beating the feather mattress.

The children were delighted to find a duck that had made its nest on a footpath!

Another lovely family day out, making the most of our National Trust membership.

Family Day - Beeston Castle

To tie in with our current geography unit on England, we decided to visit an English castle.
Beeston Castle in Cheshire is known as the 'Castle of the Rock' and is famous
for its spectacular views.

Having a go at English longstaff fighting!

It was a steep climb up to the inner bailey.

From here you can see across eight counties on a clear day.

Easter School!

To complete Tabitha and Abigail's current project on farm animals, we visited our local farm.

Nathanael and Tabitha attended a felt making workshop at the Hat Works in Stockport.

We made Easter cards,

Easter bonnets

and chocolate nest cakes!

The weather has been delightful, so we have made the most of it and spent a lot of time outdoors at parks,

den building in the woods

and we even got the paddling pools out in the garden!

Even though the children enjoy eating their Easter eggs and taking part in crafts and activities, we hope that they understand the true meaning of why we remember this time of year. In our Bible time, we have been using a devotional book, taking us through the Biblical account of the crucifixion and resurrection. One of our favourite hymns we like to sing together is Low in the Grave He Lay by Robert Lowry.

Low in the grave He lay—
  Jesus my Saviour!
Waiting the coming day—
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch His bed
Jesus, my Saviour!
Vainly they seal the dead—
Jesus my Lord!

Death cannot keep his prey—
 Jesus, my Saviour!
He tore the bars away—
 Jesus my Lord!

Hope you all have an enjoyable Resurrection Sunday.

In History, the children have completed their topic on Ancient Greece.

Modern Olympic Games

Abigail's Olympic wreath

Super scary Greek shields in the making

In Science, we have started a new topic on life cycles and have been given some tadpoles to observe from our good friend Pat. The children are really looking forward to having frogs as pets!

Nathanael's page on the life cycle of a butterfly

Tabitha's butterfly life cycle.

From acorn to oak tree

We have planted sunflowers, beans and potatoes in the garden...

Tabitha is progressing well with her reading, with the incentive of a pound to spend at the poundshop when she has completed her reading chart.

Tabitha checking her chart to see how many more books she has to read before she gets her pound!

Nathanael attended a Maker workshop, where he designed and made a spaceship for a Lego man with LED light effects.

As a family we have been out and about enjoying the spring weather.

On top of the world!

We have just finished our study of Joshua in our morning Bible time and are starting some Easter themed readings. I have got some Easter art and craft activities planned for next week and we hope to visit a farm to tie in with Tabitha and Abigail's current farm animal project.
