Our Week

We started our week with a lovely walk at Lyme Park, delighting in the beauty of God's creation.

It is mornings like this that remind me what a blessing it is to educate our own children. It is a privilege to spend so much time together as a family.

There is a great adventure playground at Lyme Park which our children love (and its fun for adults too!)

Later on that day we had our annual trip to the dentist

and harvested some fruit in the garden, which was made into a delicious rhubarb and blackcurrant crumble for tea.

We have been out in the garden a lot this week and have had an impromptu snail race. Tabitha's snail won, sadly Abigail's snail was trodden on by Elisabeth walking over the race track.

I found a climbing frame for sale for £20 on a local sale or swap site, so Paul and I went one evening to dismantle it and bring it home. As it was so old, we had a big job trying to undo all the nuts and bolts, but we managed it and the children are delighted with it! They helped clean it down and rubbed some of the rust off with wire wool.

Miriam turned 3 this week, so we had our Birthday tradition of breakfast at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Yum!

And as a Birthday present we had a family day out at Blackpool Zoo.

Sadly my camera got a drink spilt on it, so these are the only 2 photos I managed to get of the zoo, but here are last years photos if you are interested!

We have been continuing with our morning workboxes, but are taking a summer break from Science and Geography lessons. In History the children studied the War Poets including Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. The children love to hear poetry and were very inspired to write their own War Poetry.

The War is Coming - by Nathanael, Tabitha and Abigail

The war is coming,
The battle of death,
The guns are setting,
Banging and Blasting,
In the war.

People get killed,
Rats are scrambling,
Over our feet.

The war is coming,
The shells are shouting,
Our ears have gone deaf.

There is no such thing as,
Dulce et decorum est.

We are enjoying learning Psalm 100 together and we are also focusing upon memorising a hymn a week. The hymn that we have been learning this week is "Power in the Blood" by Lewis E. Jones.

"For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations."
Psalm 100:5

Our Year in Blog Posts!

I have really enjoyed my first full year of blogging. It is lovely to be able to look back at what the children have achieved over the year and all the different places we have visited.
Here is our year in blog posts!

We welcomed our fifth child, baby Elisabeth into our family just before Christmas last year.

We got out and enjoyed the snow in January and I blogged on some of our favourite things, Postal Bible School and Morning Bible Time.

In February we completed our House Project and I blogged about the children's favourite lesson of the week, history with their Daddy!

Nathanael turned 6 in March and we celebrated with a trip to Legoland Discovery Centre. He also had fun making a lapbook on Cowboys.

In April we worked on our Spring project

and in May we completed our science unit on the Human Body.

We had a lovely family day in June to the beach in North Wales and this inspired a mini project on Jellyfish.

Miriam turned two in July and we enjoyed our best day out of the year to Formby beach. Daddy and Nathanael spent some special time together on a Father and Son camping trip.

Tabitha was very excited to turn 5 in August and she competed an All About Me lapbook and Abigail made an ABC lapbook. I also posted on our Curriculum for 2013-2014.

In September we had a few days away at a Christian Home Educators holiday in Wales and when we returned the children started a new Ancient History unit and we had a trip to the Ancient World's Exhibition at the Manchester museum.

In November we started our science unit on Water and I blogged about sewing with young children.

In December Elisabeth turned one and Abigail four. I attempted to write a post a day on Christmas crafts, and failed miserably!

What a year! Not every day has been blog worthy; we have had our ups and downs and challenges along the way, but God has been good and we are very blessed.
 Looking forward to 2014.

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
Lamentation 3:22-24

Summer School - Part Three

Summer is nearly over, but we have had a fantastic one with many happy memories made. Not every day has been perfect; there have been tears and tantrums (from me as well!) but God is so good and we are very blessed.

Over the last few weeks we have been...

Den Building in the woods at Lyme Park.

Look at Elisabeth's gorgeous red hair!

Celebrating the hard work of completing the den with a picnic.

A close view of Fallow Deer.

My eldest girl, precious Tabitha, turned 5; we celebrated with a birthday party with friends

and pony riding at Stockport Market. Can you tell how excited she was?!

Brookside miniature railway.

Finding out about bee keeping and honey making at Disley Show

Over the last few weeks, the children have been completing their current modern history unit, ready for starting a new unit on Ancient History in September.

Keeping it real

This is the chaos I found today when I went up  to the girls' bedroom to check on a quiet Miriam! She said she was having a party!
